Germany shuts down three of its six nuclear power plants.

Germany has shut down three of its six nuclear power plants, as part of the country’s phase-out of nuclear energy and turned its focus to renewables. The government decided to speed up the phasing out of nuclear power following Japan’s Fukushima reactor meltdown in 2011 when an earthquake and tsunami destroyed the coastal plant in the world’s worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl in 1986.

The plants in Brokdorf in the northern state of Schleswig-Holstein, Grohnde in Lower Saxony and Unit C at Gundremmingen in Bavaria in the south shut down late yesterday after three and half decades in operation.

Narendra Modi laid foundation stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. The Sports University will be established at an estimated cost of about Rs 700 Crore and will be equipped with modern and state of the art sports infrastructure including synthetic Hockey ground, Football ground, Basketball / Volleyball / Handball / Kabaddi ground, Lawn tennis court, Gymnasium hall, Synthetic running stadium, Swimming pool, Multipurpose hall and a Cycling velodrome.

The university will also house facilities for Shooting, Squash, Gymnastics, Weightlifting, Archery, Canoeing and Kayaking, among other facilities. The University will have the capacity of training 1080 sports persons including 540 female and 540 male sportspersons.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launches nationwide 100 days reading campaign – Padhe Bharat.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on 1st January 2022 launched a nationwide 100-day reading campaign, “Padhe Bharat”. The Campaign is in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 which emphasizes the promotion of joyful reading culture for children by ensuring the availability of age-appropriate reading books for children in their mother tongue, regional and local languages.

Prime Minister Modi transfers 10th installment of PM Kisan scheme to the bank accounts of 10 crore farmers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has released the 10th installment of financial benefit under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme through video conferencing. More than 20 thousand crore rupees were transferred to over ten crore farmer families. Mr. Modi also released an equity grant of more than 14 crore rupees to about 351 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) which will benefit more than one lakh 24 thousand farmers.

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojna (Launched- 24 February 2019): To provide Rs. 6000 per annum in three installments to all the eligible farmers.
