Myanmar suspends 1.25 lakh teachers for supporting protests.

  • The government of Myanmar has suspended over 1,25,000 teachers for joining the Civil Disobedience movement opposing the military take over on February 1.

UN announces release of 22.5 M US Dollars for rising humanitarian needs in Gaza.

Important Points:
  • The UN’s Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Mark Lowcock announced the release of 22.5 million US Dollars towards the response to rising humanitarian needs in Gaza.
  • The amount includes a 4.5 million Dollars’ allocation from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) and up to 18 million Dollars from the Occupied Palestinian Territory Humanitarian Fund.

Former Atomic Energy Commission chairman Srikumar Banerjee passed away.

Important Points:
  • Srikumar Banerjee, former chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, passed away due to a heart attack in Mumbai.
  • He retired as chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission and secretary of the Department of Atomic Energy in 2012.
  • Banerjee also served as the director of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) for six years till 2010.

Black Fungus declared an epidemic in Bihar.

Important Points:
  • The Bihar government has declared Mucormycosis disease as epidemic.
  • The decision was taken at a Core Group meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
    The Mucormycosis disease also known as Black Fungus has been declared an epidemic under the Epidemic Disease Act, 1857.
  • Under this Act Government and private hospitals will have to inform the health department through a civil surgeon.

Uttarakhand govt announces Vatsalya Yojana for children orphaned due to Corona.

Important Points:
  • Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat has announced Chief Minister Vatsalya Yojana for orphaned children who have lost their parents due to Covid-19.
  • Under the scheme, the State Government will make arrangements for their maintenance, education and training for employment up to the age of 21 years.
  • Such orphaned children of the state will be given a maintenance allowance of 3000 rupees per month.
  • The state government will make laws for the paternal property of these orphans in which no one will have the right to sell their paternal property until they are adults.
