National News

India attracted highest ever total FDI inflow.

Important Points:
  • India has attracted highest ever total FDI inflow of US$ 81.72 billion during the financial year 2020-21 and it is 10% higher as compared to the last financial year 2019-20 (US$ 74.39 billion).
  • FDI equity inflow grew by 19% in the F.Y. 2020-21 (US$ 59.64 billion) compared to the previous year F.Y. 2019-20 (US$ 49.98 billion).
  • In terms of top investor countries, ‘Singapore’ is at the apex with 29%, followed by the U.S.A (23%) and Mauritius (9%) for the F.Y. 2020-21.
  • ‘Computer Software & Hardware’ has emerged as the top sector during F.Y. 2020-21 with around 44% share of the total FDI Equity inflow followed by Construction (Infrastructure) Activities (13%) and Services Sector (8%) respectively.
  • Under the sector `Computer Software & Hardware’, the major recipient states are Gujarat (78%), Karnataka (9%) and Delhi (5%) in F.Y. 2020-21.
  • Gujarat is the top recipient state during the F.Y. 2020-21 with 37% share of the total FDI Equity inflows followed by Maharashtra (27%) and Karnataka (13%).
  • Majority of the equity inflow of Gujarat has been reported in the sectors `Computer Software & Hardware’ (94%) and `Construction (Infrastructure) Activities’ (2%) during the F.Y. 2020-21.
  • The major sectors, namely Construction (Infrastructure) Activities, Computer Software & Hardware, Rubber Goods, Retail Trading, Drugs & Pharmaceuticals and Electrical Equipment have recorded more than 100% jump in equity during the F.Y. 2020-21 as compared to the previous year.
  • Out of top 10 countries, Saudi Arabia is the top investor in terms of percentage increase during F.Y. 2020-21. It invested US$ 2816.08 million in comparison to US$ 89.93 million reported in the previous financial year.
  • 227% and 44% increase recorded in FDI equity inflow from the USA & the UK respectively, during the F.Y. 2020-21 compared to F.Y.2019-20.

India and Israel sign three-year work program for cooperation in agriculture.

Important Points:
  • India and Israel have signed a three-year work program for cooperation in agriculture. India and Israel are implementing the “INDO-ISRAEL Agricultural Project Centres of Excellence” and “INDO-ISRAEL Villages of Excellence.
  • India and Israel have had bilateral relations since 1993 in the agricultural sector. This is the 5th Action Plan.
  • This new work programme will further strengthen the bilateral relations and mutual cooperation between the two countries in the field of agriculture for the benefit of the farming community.

NHA signs MoU with Telangana Govt for implementation of Ayushman Bharat PM Jan Arogya Yojana with immediate effect.

  • The National Health Authority, NHA has signed an MoU with Telangana Government for implementation of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) in the state with immediate effect.
  • The Ayushman Bharat scheme has been integrated with the existing state scheme ‘Aarogyasri’ and this converged scheme is being called Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY Aarogyasri.
  • With Telangana joining Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, the scheme now encompasses 33 States and Union Territories.

NITI Aayog to partner with TRIFED to implement Van Dhan Yojana in districts identified as aspirational.

Important Points:
  • TRIFED will now be partnering with NITI Aayog to implement the Van Dhan Yojana in the districts that have been identified as aspirational by NITI Aayog.
  • It has been decided that a dedicated team from TRIFED along with the NITI Aayog team will work out the follow-up-plan for the implementation of the Van Dhan Yojana in each of the 39 Tribal Aspirational Districts.
  • The decision was taken based on the recent discussions between Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog and Pravir Krishna, Managing Director, TRIFED.
  • These identified districts are in Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Telangana and Tripura.

RDIF and Panacea Biotec announce launch of production of Sputnik V in India.

Important Points:
  • The Russian Direct Investment Fund, RDIF and Indian Biotechnology company Panacea Biotec have announced the launch of production of the Russian COVID vaccine Sputnik V in India.
  • This move will boost the production of vaccines and help in facilitating the supply of Sputnik-V. In collaboration with the RDIF, Panacea Biotec will produce 100 million doses of Sputnik V per year.

Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur launches 1st phase of data analytics driven MCA21 Version 3.0.

Important Points:
  • Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs Anurag Singh Thakur has launched the first phase of data analytics driven MCA21 Version 3.0.
  • This Version is having additional modules for e-Adjudication, e-Consultation and Compliance Management.

Phil Mickelson wins PGA Championship; becomes oldest major winner in history.

Important Points:
  • In Golf, Phil Mickelson won the PGA Championship by two shots over Brooks Koepka and South African Louis Oosthuizen yesterday to become the oldest major winner in history.
  • The victory by Mickelson marked the sixth major championship win of his career and first since the 2013 British Open.

  • In Lyon Open tennis, Stefanos Tsitsipas beat  Cameron Norrie with a 6-3, 6-3 win. He claimed his second title of 2021.

Season’s first consignment of Shahi Litchi from Bihar exported to UK by air route.

Important Points:
  • Season’s first consignment of Shahi Litchi from Bihar was exported to the United Kingdom by air route today.
  • The fruit is being sourced from farmers in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority, APEDA collaborated with the Department of Agriculture, Bihar along with other stakeholders such as farmers, exporters and importers for facilitating exports of Shahi Litchi.
  • Shahi Litchi was the fourth agricultural product to get GI certification from Bihar in 2018, afterJardalu mango, Katarni rice and Magahi paan. GI registration for Shahi Litchi is held with the Muzaffarpur-based Litchi Growers Association of Bihar.
  • Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Samastipur, Champaran, Begusarai districts and adjoining areas of Bihar have favorable climate for growing Shahi Litchi. India is the second largest producer of litchi in the world, after China.
