DCGI gives emergency approval to anti-Covid oral drug developed by DRDO.

Important Points:
  • Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) gave emergency approval to anti Covid drug 2-deoxy-D-glucose developed by Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO).
  • The drug 2-deoxy-D-glucose comes in powder form in sachet, which needs to be taken orally by dissolving it in water.
  • It accumulates in the virus infected cells and prevents virus growth by stopping viral synthesis and energy production.
  • Its selective accumulation in virally infected cells makes this drug unique.
  • The drug has been developed by one of the DRDO lab, Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences, INMAS in collaboration with Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories.

Veteran Music Composer Vanraj Bhatia passed away.

Important Points:
  • Veteran music composer Vanraj Bhatia passed away. He was 93.
  • He scored the music for Shyam Benegal classics like ‘Ankur’ and ‘Bhumika’ and TV series ‘Yatra’ and ‘Bharat Ek Khoj’.
  • He won National Award for Best Music for Govind Nihalani’s TV series ‘Tamas’ and also the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. He received India’s fourth-highest civilian honour, the Padma Shri in 2012.
