13 June 2021: Oxygen Express trains have crossed the milestone of 30,000 MT of Oxygen delivery in service to the Nation. So far, 421 Oxygen Expresses have transported 1734 tankers of oxygen and brought relief to 15 States across India.
11 June 2021: Indian Railways has exported a 3000 HP Locomotive to Mozambique, in addition to two locomotives that were exported in March 2021.
The national transporter had exported the first batch of two locomotives in March as part of total order of six locomotives of 3000 HP cape gauge as well as 90 stainless steel passenger coaches to the African nation.
Features of 3000 HP Cape Gauge locomotives are:
- It is capable of hauling 2255 ton at a speed of 100 km per hour at level track and maximum tractive effort of 400N.
- This locomotive’s driver cabin is Noise Vibration and Harshness standard compliant having ergonomically designed seats, very good acoustics, integrated Graphic Driver Display. Also, it is provided with Heating Venting AC.
- Other facilities include on board water-closet (toilet module), hot plate and refrigerator.
- The loco’s control console has been designed as well as developed for right hand drive.
- It has also been equipped with Computer Controlled Brake system (CCB 2.0) to ensure the highest safety standards, maintainability and reliability.
- Larger fuel tank of 6000 liters has been provided for longer operation.
- For ensuring corrosion resistance, stainless steel pipes have been used.
- These locos are cost-effective and they are at par with international standards.
10 June 2021: Oxygen Expresses crossed mark of 28000 MT of LMO delivery in service to the Nation.
So far, Indian Railways has delivered nearly 28473 MT of LMO in more than 1648 tankers to various states across the country.
It may be noted that 401 Oxygen Expresses have completed their journey so far and brought relief to various States.
9 June 2021: Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the proposal for allotment of 5 MHz Spectrum in 700 MHz frequency band to Indian Railways for public safety and security services at stations and in trains.
With this spectrum, Indian Railways has envisaged to provide LTE (Long Term Evolution) based Mobile Train Radio Communication on its route. The estimated investment in the project is more than Rs. 25,000 Crore. The project will be completed in the next 5 years.
In addition to this, Indian Railways has approved TCAS (Train Collision Avoidance System), an indigenously developed ATP (Automatic Train Protection) System, which will help in avoiding train collisions thereby reducing accidents and ensuring passenger safety.
It brings a strategic shift in Railways’ operations and maintenance regime. It will help in improving the safety and increasing the line capacity to accommodate more trains using the existing infrastructure. The modern rail network will result in reduced transportation cost and higher efficiency. Also, it will attract multinational industries to set up manufacturing units to fulfill the ‘Make in India’ mission and generate employment.
The purpose of the LTE for Indian Railways is to provide secure and reliable voice, video and data communication services for operational, safety and security applications. It will be used for modern signalling and train protection systems and ensure seamless communication between loco pilots and guards. It will also enable Internet of Things (IoT) based remote asset monitoring especially of coaches, wagons & locos, and live video feed of CCTV cameras in the train coaches to ensure efficient, safer and faster train operations.
The Spectrum charges may be levied based on formula basis as prescribed by Department of Telecommunications for Royalty Charges and License Fee for Captive use as recommended by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.
8 June 2021: Oxygen Expresses deliver nearly 27600 MT of LMO to the Nation. 392 Oxygen Expresses complete Oxygen deliveries across the country. Oxygen Expresses transported 1603 tankers of LMO so far and bring relief to 15 States
6 June 2021: Oxygen Expresses delivered more than 26281 MT of LMO to the Nation. 376 Oxygen Expresses complete Oxygen deliveries across the country.
5 June 2021: Oxygen Express trains have achieved a milestone of delivering 25,000 MT of oxygen in service to the Nation via Green Corridors.
2 June 2021: Indian Railways has delivered more than 23741 MT of LMO in more than 1405 tankers to various states across the country.
1 June 2021: Rail Coach Factory rolls out India’s most affordable AC 3-tier economy class coaches.
The Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala on 1st June 2021 rolled out 15 AC 3-tier economy class coaches that will be attached to various mail and express trains. The AC 3-tier economy is touted to be the Railways’ most affordable class of air-conditioned travel.
The design of the coach includes a redesigned AC duct to provide individual vents for each berth. The coach also has an improved and modular design of seats and berths, foldable snack tables in both longitudinal and transverse bays, injury-free spaces and holders for water bottles, mobile phones and magazines.
The number of berths in the new coach has been increased from 72 to 83. The coach also has wider doors, making it convenient for specially-abled passengers. The RCF plans to manufacture 248 such coaches in the current and the next fiscal years.
1 June 2021: RDSO (Research Design & Standards Organization) of Indian Railways has become the FIRST Institution to be declared SDO under “One Nation One Standard” mission on BIS ( Bureau of Indian Standards) which is Institution under Department of Consumer Affairs.
1 June 2021: Freight figures continue to maintain the high momentum in terms of earnings and loading in the month of May 2021 for Indian Railways.
On mission mode, Indian Railways’ Freight made highest ever loading for the month of May.
In May 2021 it is 114.8 MT which is 9.7% more than May 2019 (104.6 MT) for the same period.
The important items transported during May 2021 includes 54.52 million tonnes of Coal, 15.12 million tonnes of Iron Ore, 5.61 million tonnes of Foodgrains, 3.68 million tonnes of Fertilizers, 3.18 million tonnes of Mineral Oil, 5.36 million tonnes of Cement (excluding clinker) and 4.2 million tonnes of Clinker.
In the month of May 2021, Indian Railways earned Rs. 11604.94 crores from freight loading.
Wagon Turn around time has seen an improvement of 26% in this month. In May, 2021, wagon turn around time is registered at 4.81 days as compared to 6.46 in May 2019.
31 May 2021: Internet-based video surveillance systems have been installed at 269 railway stations in 10 zones and these can store footage for 30 days.
Currently, 269 stations have been provided with IP-based VSS by RailTel. Work at 31 more stations is in progress and will be completed soon. RailTel will be completing the work at 756 stations by March 2022.
The zones which have this facility include East Central Railway, Southern Railway, South Western Railway, South Central Railway, Western Railway, West Central Railway, Central Railway, North Eastern Railway, North Western Railway, North Central Railway and South-Central Railway.
31 May 2021: 321 Oxygen Expresses have delivered over 21,939 MT of Oxygen across India
30 May 2021: Railways has delivered more than 21, 392 tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen to 15 states across the country and so far 392 Oxygen Expresses have rendered the service.
29 May 2021: Railways has delivered more than 20,770 tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen to fifteen states across the country and so far 305 Oxygen Expresses have completed their journey.
Oxygen relief by Oxygen Expresses reached out to 15 states namely Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Telangana, Punjab, Kerala, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Assam.
27 May 2021: Oxygen Express trains delivered 1,195 tonnes of the life-saving gas across India on May 26, their highest single-day load so far, surpassing the previous high of 1,142 tonnes transported three days earlier.
Indian Railways has so far delivered more than 18 thousand 980 Metric Tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen- LMO in over one thousand 141 tankers to various states across the country. 284 Oxygen Express have completed their journey so far and brought relief to various States.
26 May 2021: Indian Railways has delivered more than 17,945 Metric Tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen in more than 1,080 tankers to various states across the country.
24 May 2021: Railway orders suspension of wrestler Sushil Kumar after his arrest in murder case.
24 May 2021: Highest ever single day load of over 1,142 MT of Oxygen relief has been delivered by Oxygen Express. Previous best was 1118 MT on 20th May 2021.
Indian Railways complete delivery of more than 16000 MT of LMO in 1 month to 14 states across the country. Amongst the Southern States; delivery of LMO to Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, cross 1000 MT each.
247 Oxygen Expresses with 977 tankers complete their journeys so far and bring relief to 14 States. Oxygen relief by Oxygen Expresses reaches out to 14 states namely Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Telangana, Punjab, Kerala, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh & Assam.
23 May 2021: The first Oxygen Express has reached Assam, carrying Oxygen through the Green Corridor to provide quick and uninterrupted supply of medical Oxygen for COVID-19 patients.
23 May 2021: Oxygen Express continues to provide relief to COVID-19 patients, delivered more than 15,284 MT of medical oxygen across India.
22 May 2021: Oxygen Expresses deliver nearly 14500 MT of Liquid Medical Oxygen in more than 884 tankers by 224 Oxygen Expresses to the Nation. 8 loaded Oxygen Expresses on run with more than 563 MT of LMO in 35 tankers.

22 May 2021: Indian Railway Statistics (As of 21.05.2021)
In this fiscal year 2021-22, Indian Railways surpassed the loading figures of the year 2020 & 2019 that is 185.04 MT (2021 year) compared to 116.1 MT (2020 year) and 167.66 MT (2019 year) which shows the growth of 59.38 % & 10.37 % respectively.
In this period, Indian Railways earned Rs. 18542.8 crores from freight loading. It is 4.92% higher than the year 2019 earning from freight which was Rs. 17674 Crores & 75.93% higher than the year 2020 (Rs 10540.1) for the same period.
Indian Railways has maintained the momentum of highest ever loading in consecutive 09 respective months from September, 2020 to May, 2021.
On mission mode, Indian Railways’ Freight loading for the month of May 2021 crossed 2019 & 2020 year’s loading and earnings for the same period.
Coal sector has shown a sustained growth. Indian Railways loaded 88.15 MT Coal in this FY 2021-22 which is a growth of 54.03% compared to the last year 2020 (57.23 MT) and 1.39% compared to the year 2019 loading (86.94 MT).
In the month of May 2021 (till date), Indian Railways loading was 73.45 million tonnes which is 44.99% higher compare to last year’s loading for the same period (50.66 million tonnes). It is 10.27% higher than the year 2019 loading figures (66.61 MT) for the same period.
Indian Railways loading was 73.45 million tonnes which includes 35.62 million tonnes of coal, 9.77 million tonnes of iron ore, 3.38 million tonnes of foodgrains, 2.22 million tonnes of fertilizers, 2.02 million tonnes of mineral oil and 3.15 million tonnes of cement (excluding clinker).
In May, 2021, Indian Railways earned Rs. 7368.00 Crores from freight loading which is also 62.20% higher compared to last year’s earnings for the same month (Rs. 4541.21 crores) & 4.93% higher compared to the year 2019 earning figures (Rs.7021.75 Crores) for the same period.

21 May 2021: Oxygen Expresses deliver record 1118MT of Oxygen in a day. So far, 208 Oxygen Express trains have provided 13,319 MT of Oxygen to 13 States across India.
20 May 2021: Around 200 Oxygen Express trains have completed their journey so far, delivering nearly 12,630 MT of Oxygen across India.
19 May 2021: Indian Railways has so far delivered nearly 11,800 Metric Tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen in more than 727 tankers to 13 States across the country. States are- Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Telangana, Punjab, Kerala, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. 196 Oxygen Expresses have completed their journey so far.
19 May 2021: Railways’ says all 86 of its COVID hospitals to soon have oxygen plants of their own.
18 May 2021: Oxygen Express has delivered the biggest single day load of more than 1,000 MT Oxygen & provided over 11,030 MT of Oxygen to 13 States across India.
18 May 2021: 10 COVID Care Coaches were placed at the New Tinsukia Railway station in Assam.
18 May 2021: CONCOR has taken an initiative to boost exports by reducing rail freight tariff by 50% for movement of empty containers from gateway ports to CONCOR ICDs/Private Sidings/CRTs. This discount is extended for full FY 2021-22 to facilitate availability of containers & reduce costs.
17 May 2021: Oxygen Express has delivered over 10,300 MT of medical Oxygen to various states across India as of 17 May 2021.
16 May 2021: Oxygen Express has provided over 9,440 MT Oxygen to 13 States. Nearly 150 Oxygen Express trains have completed their journey so far.
16 May 2021: First Oxygen Express to Punjab with 41MT (2 tankers) of medical oxygen left Bokaro, Jharkhand.
16 May 2021: Railways achieved a major milestone with completion of 800m tunnelling in East-West Kolkata Metro Corridor. This will facilitate extension from Phoolbagan to Howrah Maidan, reduce travel time & enhance connectivity for all passengers.
16 May 2021: The first Oxygen Express to Kerala has reached Ernakulam from Kalinganagar with medical Oxygen for COVID-19 patients in the State.
15 May 2021: Railways has commissioned Wi-Fi at six thousand Railway stations in five years. With the commissioning of Wi-Fi at Hazaribagh Railway station in Jharkhand on 15th May, Indian Railways commissioned Wi-Fi at six thousand Railway stations. Railways have started its Journey by providing Wi-Fi facility at 1st Railway station Mumbai in January 2016.
15 May 2021: The first Oxygen Express to Kerala started its journey with 118 metric tonnes of medical Oxygen to boost Oxygen supply for COVID-19 patients in the State.
14 May 2021: The first Oxygen Express to Nellore, Andhra Pradesh has started its journey from Durgapur with Oxygen for COVID-19 patients.
7 May 2021: European Investment Bank (EIB) on Friday committed second tranche of 150 million euros (about Rs 1,335 crore) for Pune Metro Rail project. The agreement to this effect was signed by K Rajaraman, Additional Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, on behalf of the Government of India (GoI) and Christian Kettel Thomsen Vice President, EIB.
5 May 2021: The Railways has made a fleet of nearly 4000 Isolation coaches with almost 64000 beds to serve as Isolation Units.
3 May 2021: French rolling stock manufacturer Alstom has manufactured and supplied the 100th fully electric high-powered double-section locomotive to Indian Railways. Alstom will be delivering around 800 electric locomotives of 12,000 HP under the contract of around $4.22bn (€3.5bn), which it secured in 2015.
With the capacity to transport 6,000 tonnes at a speed of 120 km/hr, these locomotives will be deployed to provide freight services. This project is said to be the largest Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) project in the Indian Railway industry.
In May 2020, the first Prima T8TM WAG-12B locomotive commenced commercial services.
30 April 2021: French rolling stock major Alstom has rolled out its 100th electric locomotive manufactured at its Madhepura factory in Bihar. As part of a Rs 25,000 crore order bagged by Alstom in 2015, the company is to supply 800 e-locos to the Indian Railways over a period of 11 years.
28 April 2021: The Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) has invited bids for leasing of three sites to develop Multi-Functional Complexes (MFC) at Bellary, Sikar and Bharatpur Railway Stations for 45 years.
9 April 2021: Rakesh Singh appointed as Managing Director of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) Namma Metro.
5 April 2021: The construction of the arch of the world’s highest railway bridge that soars 359 metres above the bed of the Chenab river in Jammu and Kashmir was completed on 5 April 2021.
5 April 2021: Logistics major CMA CGM Group on Monday said it has received the first ever block train from Mundra to Sanand in Gujarat jointly with Hasti Petro Chemical and Shipping. A block train is a cargo locomotive used for goods transport. This new service is the first block train by a shipping line between Mundra and inland container depot (ICD) Sanand.
5 April 2021: The National Institute of Technical Teachers’ Training and Research, Bhopal has developed a ‘Multifunctional Railway Track Scavenging Vehicle’.
1 April 2021: The steam engine of the first passenger train that plied between Mumbai and Thane in 1853 will be installed at Thane railway station premises.
31 March 2021: Indian Railways freight revenue in FY21 grows by 3%, loading up 2%. Indian Railways carried 1,224.45 million tonne of freight this year, compared to 1,205.04 million tonne of goods carried last in FY 20. Revenue on account of goods loaded in FY 21 stood at Rs. 116,634.9 crore, up 3% compared to RS 113,477.9 crore generated last year.
31 March 2021: The first freight train consisting of 50 wagons of high speed diesel was run on the newly constructed New Palanpur-Madar section of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC).
